My research involves the non‑microbial synthesis of the polymer PHB (polyhydroxybutyrate). This polymer is biodegradable and can be synthesized from renewable raw materials. It can be used for different applications, including medical uses. Currently, the way it is produced is complex and costly. In our studies, we are proposing a more modern approach that does not rely on biotechnology.

More information

I was born in São Paulo and graduated in Chemistry at the University of São Paulo (USP).

I completed my Master’s degree at UNICAMP in the field of physical chemistry, with a study on the properties of blends of PHB polymers and different cellulose derivatives.

Before starting my PhD, I worked in several companies as an analytical, development, and applications chemist (including CIBA, Procter & Gamble, and Dow Chemical).

Throughout my career as a chemist, I have received awards at conferences, obtained patents, authored books, and published in technical‑scientific journals.

Among my hobbies are reading and writing poetry (I have published books of my own authorship), as well as taking daily walks with my little dog.

I am also a collector of miniature cars (I have a themed collection: cars that appeared in movies, comics, and animated series).

I am the father of a young woman who is a digital influencer and the grandfather of three beautiful grandchildren.
